Deletion of "Instrumnetal" segments and their annotations from songs' lyrics on Genius
|
A staff member has deleted the “Guitar solos” from “Bohemian Raphsody” lyrics, together with their annotations. These are integral parts of the song (and most other rock songs – classics and all), and they were very good annotations. You can see the deleted annotations if you click on “contributors” and scroll down.
Is that due to new outside contractual demands?
Does it bother you as it does me? It is like neutering the song(s) and neutering Genius at the same time. The song’s explanation is incomplete, and Genius is losing its independence.
While a discussion here may not be able to affect any contract’s terms, perhaps it will trigger a discussion among those who do have some influence and decision power to consider it in the future and perhaps even change this unfortunate new policy, and I am being very generous with the adjective I chose.
Let’s here some consenting and dissenting comments, and perhaps staff will add some wisdom, since the above move is definitely lacking it.

Misspelled Song Title
|
What are we supposed to do when we encounter a song page that exists only because the title got misspelled? Earlier today I encountered this misspelled Elton John page, and tried to fix it myself:
https://genius.com/Elton-john-someone-saved-my-life-tonightt-lyrics
But just now I came across another misspelled page …

… and I’m beginning to think that now that my eyes are opened to this sort of thing, I’m going to spot a whole lot over the next few days.

Guitar Chords Genius?
|
Not exactly the catchiest title, but here I go.
So I was looking at the song page for Do I Wanna Know, and in the song page comments, there’s a few comments on the chords for the song. And that got me to thinking, wouldn’t Rock Genius be the perfect platform to display guitar chords along with the relevant lyrics? The annotations would work by displaying the appropriate tabs/chords, finger positions, strumming patterns etc. Most existing chord websites simply have these info at the top of the page, are usually terribly formatted IMO, making it rather difficult for beginners to learn to play a song.
Idk if this has been suggested before, or has been previously rejected for some reason,(ignore if so) but I thought it would be pretty dope. I can’t claim to be much of a guitarist, but I’m sure there are a bunch of great instrumentalists on here who can drop knowledge.
Thoughts?

My Review of Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd
|
So I’m finally going to give this album a listen in it’s entirety since the majority of RG believes that it’s better than any rap album ever. I have received endless hate over the fact that I do not think this album is any good after only listening to snippets of each song to form my opinion. I will now listen to the entire album.
Previous threads that started this:
https://genius.com/discussions/126367-List-of-albums-better-than-dark-side-of-the-moon
https://genius.com/discussions/134468-Illmatic-vs-darkside-of-the-moon
lets begin
1)Speak To Me/Breathe
very slow weird start up into a normal sounding song. Nothing about it sticks out to me as mind blowing. This is the kind of music that plays when your car breaks down in the middle of the Arizona desert and it’s just you and some cactus and poison frogs that might entice you to lick them for sustenance and hallucinate.
Now there is a guy singing and i can barely understand what he’s saying or what he’s singing about. As of now I am thinking

The Beatles- Revolution (on RG)
|
@Avi and I have been having a discussion about whether Revolution and Revolution I deserve separate song pages, and we’d like consensus.
My opinion:
(Revolution) has slightly different lyrics- subtle changes in John’s opinion, and no “shoo-be-do-dah”.
Revolution is not a duplicate of Revolution I. They are different songs, with largely different music and slightly different lyrics, and are treated as such by MacDonald, and by Joe at The Beatles Bible.
Simple fact is, if somebody looks for the lyrics of “Revolution I” and finds the lyrics of “Revolution”, they’re gonna get the wrong lyrics. If we have Revolution in The White Album, or Revolution I in Past Masters, then we are making a stupid mistake that makes us appear amateurish.
Avi’s reply:
I am quite familiar with the intricate differences and similarities between the versions, having lived through the issue and evolution of revolution (corny, but true). While ‘9’ can and should stand on its own, ‘o’ and ‘1’ have basica
